Some people have no regard whatsoever to personal space.

Yesterday i was grocery shopping and some woman decided to stand shoulder to shoulder with me. we were actually touching.

WHY.

Or when you stand in a que.

Why do people feel the need to be so close?

Lets leave room to breath people.

You dont want to smell peoples breath, & you certainly should want people smelling yours.

No matter how many smints you pop.

Ive seen fully grown men & women bicker like there 16.

& what is up with all the gossip?

The low self esteem issues?

I just learned that someone i know just twisted a very disturbing story about yours truly.

Seriously i was over that crap by the time i hit puberty.

Maybe I just need to surround myself with better people.

But i definitely need that one person to get out of my face!

I keep telling myself I'm satisfied.

God has given me too much ... way too much to the point i feel guilty & ashamed sometimes..

That being said, i always want MORE.

More money, more clothes, more traveling, more junk i don't need, more of everything and anything.

Finding The Right Gym

Im no athlete. But i understand the importance of working out.
I try to work out whenever possible, and im like most people. Id get motivated for a while then the motivation wears off and im back where I started.

You see my problem is this : i cannot find the right gym.

I was happy with my gym until recently when weird ppl started joining.
One woman started cursing in the middle of class. total turn off.
The other one decided the lighting was giving her a headache and switched all of them on ruining the mood of the whole class.

Also i have noticed people working out in there pjs and the one that scares me the most works out in her big 6ambookha.
If shes in the class i leave. Not only because her 6ambookha is a danger to those around her, but im keeping the other reasons to myself.

What i want in a gym :

I hate working out on machines. they bore me out of my mind.

I need a gym that offers a variety of classes at many different times.

The trainers have to be professionals.
If im in a class and the trainer is fatter than the people attending , i leave.

The crowd definitely affects my mood.

I like small classes where very few people attend.

I would love for the gym to be 3agad/hailag free.

id rather the gym has women only classes.

The gym has to be super clean.

I like gyms that don't allow you to bring mobile fones to the work out areas, or bring in children.

Is that too much to ask for?

Your input/recommendations are highly appreciated.

Also id love to hear about your gymming nightmares!

There's a lot of construction going on in our neighborhood. The baladiya has turned all our roads up side down. So everyone parks in this big yard behind our house.

Yesterday when i was leaving for work, i found the baladiya ppl have dug a big hole in front of the exit.
I was stuck.
There was no way for me to get to work.

Three guys were standing outside their house.
One of them signaled me to stop, While the other two carried a huge plank of wood and covered the hole with it.
Then they crouched down, held on to the plank so it wouldn't move, and guided me out of the bara7a.

They didn't have to do that.
They didn't have to take time out of their day, mess up there dishdashas, dirty there hands to help me, but they did, and then they just walked off.

I wanted to get out of my car and hug them! they made me so happy.
I went to work with a HUGE smile on my face. They totally put me in a good mood.

The three guys i never met or talked to before.
Thank you !

The Dark Side Of Cairo

Everyone knows i love Cairo.

The are many many things i love about that city, but there are also many things that really and truly sadden me.

Sitting in Khan AlKhaleli, an old bazaar, filled with coffee shops, people milling around. It is a major tourist attraction in Cairo.

I see a little 3 year old boy walking around with a toy in his hand.

I wave to him and try to talk to him. He looked a bit sick and wasn't in the mood. His older sister or cousin was standing rite there with him.

The boy walked away and i saw him being lead by an older woman to a far corner.

A few minits later he came out crying very very quietly, holding his arm.
Which i swear to you was broken.

My aunt called him over and hugged him. Asking him wats wrong. His older sister chipped in. His grandma called him over and beat him up for not being hyper and cheerful so he would collect more money.

He wasn't making enough she said. He wasn't working like he should be.

If only you could see the pain and hurt that were in that little boys face. If only you could have seen the devastation.

I'm writing this to you with tears streaming down my face. He broke my heart.

All my mom could say was 7esbe allah wani3ma elwakeel 3ala ahlik.

That child has no childhood. No innocence. No time for play.

He will never go to school. He will grow up to be nothing and no one, just like the thousand kids before him.

The sister told me that only some of them go to school, but the rest of them have to work.

How can the Egyptian government allow this to happen?

This has been going on for many many years, and there are no indications that it will stop.

No one is taking a substantial stand against it.

God all i wanted to do was find the grandmother and beat her to a pulp. i wanted to hurt her, to cause her pain. to break her like she broke that tiny child.

The Worm is Full

I have always prided myself in being a reader; a bookworm.
I'm always reading. I carry my book with me wherever i go.

But lately I've hit a dry spell. My book worm is full. Or my brain is dead.
I miss passionately reading. Where i cant put the book down. Where id be fighting sleep just to get to the last page.

I need my reading mojo back.

This summer i found a jewel of a bookstore. Ill post about it later.

I was surprised by the amount of people that did not know this wonderful fruit.
You guys are missing out!!

The fact that i took time out of my day to actually write about it, should be a great testament to what a great fruit this is.

Kakah has many many health benefits. It is rich in fiber, iron, vitamin C & A, just to name a few.

If you have never tried this fruit go out and get yourself some. They are available in any of your local coops.

Make sure the fruit is ripe and soft. (not brown)
If the fruit is not ripe it'll have a bitter after taste & you don't want that.

The skin is edible too, although i don't prefer it.

It is in season so go knock yourself out and tell me what you think of it .

i was so excited when i found out about the documentary on the invasion of kuwait.
Starting august second and ending on the day of liberation.

I thought wow finally something of significance. I was only 5 years old when the war took place, so i was looking forward to educating myself about it. Reliving what my country has went through.

I asked all my little cousins to watch. This is our history i said. Watch and learn. Since our schools barely touch on the subject.

I am EXTREMELY disappointed. Its the same 3 scenes played over and over again.
I wanted to see the Kuwaiti people. their day to day lives.

The political scenes are so monotonous. there was nothing pulling me to watch.
Me, a citizen of this country, so i can only imagine people that weren't affected by the invasion.

I have watched a dozen documentaries on world war II and loved them.

but this ... its sad how mediocre it is.

Id rather they made it short and interesting. Than long and bromidic. bromidic

Healthy Life Style

In my never ending attempt to eat better i started using lactose free milk.
The thing is, directions on the box clearly state consume within 3 days of opening.

Im not a big fan of milk.

I'll have a little with my tea, and pour some over my cereal.
I CANNOT finish 1 liter in 3 days.

And i hate wasting food.

I tried finding lacto free in smaller packs. But to no avail :(

By the way, its not easy turning your eating habits around, and its way more expensive than i thought it would be.

I know its worth it. maybe. perhaps.

i also discovered many things i was unaware of. Its a whole new world out there!

and a very long learning process.

I found fellow bloggers organickuwait, and fahad to be a great great help, and very inspiring.

Still Alive

i should post something cause this is getting ridiculous.

Iv been all over the place the past two months.

Traveled to Germany, Holland, and Belgium. A short amazing trip.

Had a HUGE career changing exam, which i failed. But no worries i can always retake it.

Best of all i went to see fayrooz in Lebanon.

Its the first time i set foot in Lebanon since like 1996 or something.

The fayrooz experience was unparalleled !

I love her !

In the beginning it was really hard, and i was suffering withdrawal symptoms.

I'm used to it now, but i really miss blogging.

I cannot stop thinking about fahad.

Fahad was my patient. 21 years old, he had just beat canser.

I was so proud of him.

Fahad needed to have all his teeth pulled out.

Every single one.

21 and toothless.

But he had a sense of humor.

The first time i met fahad, I gave him his post exraction instructions written on a paper.

He looked up at me and told me he cant read.

And neither can his friend who was with him all the time.

You see fahad is bedoon. He has no nationality. And it kuwait apparently it means your not classified as human.

He had no nationality so he had no right to an education.

and that just broke my heart.

And i want to do something about it.

I want to take it upon myself to teach fahad how to read and write.

Iv spent months asking around and researching how i can go about doing that.

Its been the hardest task iv ever set my mind to.

Yesterday I went to the the National Democratic Alliance headquarters in support of Khalid Alfadalah.

Above is a vedio of Khalids arrest.

The next one is of the speech his father gave yesterday.
It was heart wrenching listening to his father talk.
He made everyone tear up.

Whats even more heart wrenching is that something like this is happening in Kuwait.
Land of democracy.
and caused by who?
One of its top leaders.

Once we were flying back home and it was ramadan. So during the meal they gave out packets of dates. I love dates!

Wedded Bliss

For the past week i was out of the country, hence my lack of activity in the blog sphere.

I just came back from Cairo, where i spent one of the most amazing weeks of my life.

I was there to attend 7alawa and kimos wedding.

I have been to many many weddings all over the world, but nothing comes even close to this one!

It was a spectacular event.

The room was just generating with love.

I cant get over it

We have all been together since forever.

We have known each other as ugly pre-pubirty adolescence

and even uglier post puberty adolescence.

And to be standing around such a beautiful couple, surrounded by people i have known for most of my life was ... the epitome of happiness.

Making Amends

A couple of years ago i had a falling out with a person who used to be really close to me.

I cant tell you what the falling out was about, and the reason i cant tell u is because i dont remember !!

I was at the avenues and i saw her.
And in my head i was all oh my god its bessa!

I started walking towards her then halted.
Were not talking!
I waited for the familiar sence of anger when i thought of her and there was nothing!

Why am i not talking to you bessa?!

True we had our differences, but we were a lot more similar.
True we had our rough patches, but our life was full of smooth runs.
True we are never going to fully approve of the way we run our lives, but we can always agree to disagree cant we?

When we had the falling out, were waiting for the other person to take the first step.
But were as stubborn as each other.
And neither of us did.

I felt i was wronged and insulted, and my pride and dignity come above all else.
And she felt she was totally within her rights and waited for me to apologize.

And here we are two whole years later.

We missed so many big events in our lives.

I missed the birth of her daughter, and her first birthday.
She missed my graduation, my first job, my breakdown.

was it worth it?
Are we beyond repair?

How would she react if i call her?
Do i want to find out?

Every few days the girls and I decide to have a "movie night"
I put it in quotes, because for some reason we never get around to watching the movie!!

The last movie i watched was... i cant remember!

We end up baking and talking.

Having strange tea infusions and talking.

Or we start the movie. We fall asleep. and never get to finish it.

the last "movie night" we had, wiener made carrot cake.
and we had banana tea. It tastes as weird as it sounds.

My cousin ordered their "best selling dish"
as recommended by the waiter and she liked it

My other cousin had shrimp noodles

so i never taste what shes having but she says its good

And i had noodles with steak, the noodles were a bit dry though.

We then headed to the cinema

a serial killer

I tried taking a language class. But i could never coordinate the time with my work shifts.

I tried learning the piano, but i have to patience for it!

I would love to dabble in something that would maybe make me some money.

Nakhee, Bajela & a Moral Story

When I was just a little kid, i was out with my aunt somewhere in shwaikh.

On the way back I told her I wanted some Nakhee, Bajela and iranian bread for dinner.

She bought the stuff for me and while driving down the street she saw a young man in dirty clothes helping a very elderly looking man in even dirtier clothes stand up right.

She looked at me and said " eshda3wa why don't we give the poor man the food we have now and when we get closer to home ill buy you some more"

I remember shaking my head vigorously. " no i want my food"

My aunt gave me a look and said "but eshda3wa you don't want that very old man to go to sleep hungry do you? 7aram."

I reluctantly agreed. and my aunt rolled down her window and called the young man over. after inquiring about him for a bit she handed him the food, and the young man beamed and headed over to his father who waved at us and then lifted his hand up in prayer.

The whole way back between my questions every 3 minits about her buying me new food, she explained to me about how there are people less fortunate than us in this world, and about how whenever we can we should always help them.

I don't know how much my little self absorbed that day, but i saw my aunt repeating the same thing time and time again.

My grandma used to fill boxes with sandwiches and go distribute them to the poor workers in petrol stations, super markets, the chabra.
we used to do that nearly every weekend.

I was familiar with the concept of giving to the poor, but that day my aunt taught me how to give up something that was mine. Something that i wanted to have , not something i made to be given away.

I think many of us over look that.

A few days ago while i was with her in the car again, her grandchildren wrecking havoc in the back seat, we stopped for nakhee and bajila.

In the parking lot of the jam3ya she saw a man sweeping the street. She handed her 8 year old grandson some nakhee and bread and told him to go give it to the man and say thank you.

I heard her repeat the same story she told me years ago to the eager faces of the little kids.

I saw their brows furrow and their little heads nod.

And the only thing i thought was wow.

I wish their were more people like my aunt around.

I'm not a big music fan.

Usually on the way to work i listen to either the news or a do3aá.

Cause music this early in the morning annoys me .

On the way back though id listen to the radio.

Every time i listen to 99.7 there playing winter wonderland.
Bara el jaw eghbaar oo 7ar and they still insist on playing winter wonderland.

Yuba khalas el winter i swear.

And whats up with them by the way . Its like they have 15 songs that they play over and over again!

I just prescribed to the TED talks podcast so i can listen to interesting ideas on the drive to work.

Did winter realize its been neglecting us and decided to make up for it?

I woke up to a sound of banging.

My room was pitch black.

I look at my phone its 7.30 am.

I got out of bed and looked out my window.

The sun slept in. Its a no show today.

And winter sent its furious children.

Rain and wind. There in a fight with the dust outside, and theres no telling whos winning.

But winter forgot its most important daughter. The only one i enjoy spending some time with, the COLD.

Hoards of people would gather near SAS
and the marathon would start.

They gave out ribbons. I think they were orange if I remember correctly.

Review: Think Cafe & Restaurant

For the past few months I’ve been studying for my MD, or some shit like that, and I’ve been struggling to find the most efficient location to get some work done. There are way too many distractions at home, and I get distracted way too easily in commercially developed coffee shops.

On March 20th, Think Café & Restaurant was officially opened and seemed to cater to my needs. Their description on facebook states that Think has a “professional yet cozy ambiance to hold ur business meetings, student group meetings and even ur chillin' out get-away hangouts.” Despite their desperate plea to attract customers in anyway possible, I was curious to checkout their “professional/cozy ambience.” To me, professional cozy ambiance sounded like the product of Kinko’s shagging East Village B Café – I was really eager to know whether Think is the perfect little place to finish up (or start off) my academic review.
What follows are some pictures and a brief review of Think Café & Restaurant

The pictures above portray Think Café & Restaurant just as similar as any other café here in Kuwait. Their menu was overburdened with carb-elicious desserts and fridge-d salads and sandwiches. There warm/cold beverages include Nutella hot chocolate, peach iced tea and a variety of energy cocktail mixes. In Think, however, there was delightful amount of sunlight coming into the café. It was almost like walking into a contemporary art museum.. without the nude sculptures of course. Though they do have several enlarged photographic art displayed throughout the café and is said that they will be switched out every few months. So if you do want to publicize your art, this might be a good affordable way to do so. The current artists are Zainab Dashti, Mothi AlShuwaihan, Mahdi Jaber Ali, Ali AlAttar, created a custom series dedicated to Think Café & Restaurant.

Bellow, you’ll begin to see that Think’s concept is definitely new to Kuwait. The café is well equipped with Wi-Fi, computer stations, and a printer station, above other things.

Here is one of the four computer stations. What is quite impressive about the work stations is that you get to have a little smart card that you insert into the computer in which you can save all of your personal settings and documents for the next time you log in. Pure genius!

The conference room displayed in the picture bellow these words is probably my favorite part about Think. Within the café itself, is a separate conference room available for anyone’s professional meetings or group studies. They charge K.D.15 an hour and it includes 8 beverages. The room is equipped with wires that enable users to connect their laptop to the flat screen TV for better projection.

Overall, I absolutely liked my experience at Think Café & Restaurant, however, next time I’m packing my own Little Mermaid lunchbox along with my books.

One of my friends in high school, grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth.

He comes from a family of privilege and wealth.

He had his whole life a head of him.

He has fallin off the radar recently. I haven't heard from him in a while.

I met a couple of people a few days ago who were in the same university as him.

I asked them how he was doing.

The both looked at me and shook their heads. Never a good sign.

What i asked, whats wrong.

They told me that the guy has been sitting at home for the past year and a half. He's not even enrolled in university.

He became morbidly obese.

He's four times the size he used to be in high school they said.

and he was a pretty big guy in high school.

They told me if he walks to the door he starts panting.

All he does is sit in his lazy boy and smoke weed.

Day or night, he rolls them joints and smokes.

Its sad. I felt really bad for him.

I called him a few times and he didn't pick up.

My other friends tried to intervene, but what can you do when your a million miles apart.

The thing is his family thinks he's in university. Although i don't know what major lasts seven years!

I hope he gets out of the rut hes in. Y7es 3ala dama eshway.

I hate that theres nothing i can do for him.

Perfect Start To A Day I

This time my girlfriends and i decided to go to the early bird.

I ordered tea

We ordered pancakes, waffels, and egg whites.

I love grocery shopping, very few people do. I find it very calming. I love walking up and down the isles, looking at the new products. Trying to find bargains.

I dont like waiting in line thought.

Thats why i like going late at night when its pretty dead

I dont like really large supermarkets like carrefour. And my fav. place to grocery shop is the M & S food section! I never get bored there. But in Kuwait i have to settle for the local coop. Which isnt so bad. do you guys like to grocery shop?

The Silent Treatment

So i have been working at the new place for a week now.
I use the word new sparingly. The clinic is over 10 years old, but compared to the clinic i was working in before its heaven!

Apart from being nervous about starting at a new place, i was really looking forward for a change of pace, but i got really disappointed as soon as i met the consultant.

She apparently has nothing to say to me AT ALL.
I walk in and i say goodmoring and she nods. Thats it, not a smile or even a grunt, just a nod!

Then she ignores me for the rest of the day until its time to leave.
She stands up, gathers her things and says ok dectorah and walks out.

Except for the first day, when she went out of her way to make me feel welcome by telling me
" dont expect to do anything in my clinic. I work at a very fast pace and I dont have time to slow down and teach you"

Then she turns around and ignores me for the rest of the day.

I am BORED.

Bored of just watching her.

Bored of waiting for the hours to go by so i can leave.

Im bored of being bored.

As you can see we have warmed up to each other a lot.

I can see an ever lasting friendship in our future.

First Day Of Work

Starting work at a new place sucks!

First I have to wake up a whole hour early !!

An hour makes a great big difference!!

I get frustrated cause i don't know how long it'll take me to get to the new place.

As a rule i never ever drive myself to a new place.

I always let the diver take me. Cause i just don't want to go thru the hassle of finding a parking and what not.

Then theres finding where the hell it is im supposed to be at, and getting to know my supervisor.

Then getting with the rhythm of things, and smiling at all the new people im supposed to be working with!

We had a big bash for Halloween!

Cheap Perfume & BO

i had a patient at the clinic today who decided to shower in some cheap perfume.

He sat in the chair, and every time i leaned forward to try and work i would sneeze, and sneeze, then sneeze some more.
My eyes started watering and i had to take my mask off, which just made it worse.

Why do people shower in perfume.. and nasty perfume at that..?

and the icing on the cake was my assistant..

the guy has the nastiest body odor ever..

It was like i was stuck in a gas chamber, with nasty perfume and BO..

This could be used as a torture mechanism ..

In the end i had to leave the room and ask one of my colleagues to take over..

Im so bad with money. The minit i get paid, im broke .

The only solution i can think of is to lock myself at home and not go out!

I get paid well. some of my girlfriends even save up a good sum every month.

One of my girlfriends gets paid a quarter of what i do, she manages to live the good life and save up..

End Of The World Is Near

I joined a gym!

I decided to do something about my back pain.

It hasn't been easy since the last time i exercised was ... well .. never.

And i discovered people haven't been lying to me all those years. It does feel good!

So im hoping ill stick to it.

I don't work out on the machines though. Its just too boring for me!
I mostly take classes, like aerobics and all that jazz.

I prefer riding a bicycle outside than going to the gym any day, but im waiting for the weather to get better.

What about you guys?
Do you prefer outside activities or indoor?

Marrying My Father

The title is a little weird i know.

When I was a little girl i was in love with my father.
I wanted to marry him.
He was the only person on planet earth that could do no wrong.
His word was the word of deity.
everything and anything that came out of his mouth was the absolute truth.

If we were walking outside and he told me the sky is purple not blue i would have believed him.

If I could worship anyone other than god id build a temple around my father and worship at his feet.

He was perfect.

My super hero. There is nothing in the world that he could not do.

He knew all the answers to every question , and he can do the most complicated mathematical equations in his head.

I used to wonder why my father wasn't king of the world, cause he could fix everything and make the world a better place.

He was definitely king of my world.

I was 100 percent daddy's girl.

And then i grew up..

I discovered my dad was only human, and he makes mistakes like everybody else.
he could not fix everything and anything..

Of course his mistakes no matter how minor, were amplified 10000 times over.

But even with this painful discovery, I still learned a valuable lesson from my father.

If my father is human, then every body else definitely is,
if my father can make mistakes, then everybody in the world makes mistakes too.
Cause their mere mortals and my father is the king.

and if i can forgive the rest of the world for their mistakes
then i can certainly forgive my father.

Diseny Land Around The World

It has always been a dream of mine to go to every Disney theme park in the world.

I've already been to Euro Disney Paris, California, and Florida.

It would be a dream come true if i go to the ones in Hong Kong and Tokyo!

It would be extremely easy to plan a trip there, but the thing is if i land in Tokyo and Hong Kong i would want to see a lot more than just Disney.

A trip is in the making, I just have to see who's willing to come with..

I don't get people that hate to travel!

Back to Disney.. i think it really truly is the happiest place on earth!

My favorite so far is Euro-Disney.

We are a group of young Kuwaiti volunteers who joined the Oqsim training program conducted by Zawaya (the Group that launched the Oqsim Campaign) and ended our training with a project captures the ideas of participants, and at the same time tries to further such values as dedication and integrity at work, tolerance and celebration of pluralism and difference, and the value of volunteer work and ‘passing it forward’. Our project is an celebratory event and an accompanying campaign that we have entitled ‘Zawaya Ashaghaf Ahyainaha’ .زوايا الشغف.. أحييناها

This name carries the following message: it is that combination of passion and dedication that renders any output exceptional, hence one should never let his or her passion die.

"Zawaya AShaghaf" carries with four angles:

1. Talent show:
there will be special talents showcased on stage and in an exhibition, ranging from solo and band music and instrument playing, different types of poetry, gymnastics show, comic skit, fine arts, photography and others.

2. The launch of the Book of achievements that records Kuwait’s achievements in photo formula from the 50’s to date, decade by decade. The book contains unique and rarely seen pictures.

3. A photography booth: visitors and attendants can have their pictures taken with creative backgrounds, inspired by the achievements recorded in the book.

4. T-shirt booth: Our t-shirts are unique, trendy and up-to date. It delivers our message in a creative and diverse way. Some designs carry prints relating to Kuwait’s achievements, while others carry messages relating to human and civil values such as respect and giving.

There will also be a major rebate from the sale of the shirts to BAACH (Bait Abdullah for the care of terminally ill children).

Our celebration will be held in Phase II of the Avenues Mall, September 24, 25, and 26, between the hours of 11 am and 6 pm. The talent show will run from 4-6 pm.

We are all volunteers between the ages of 15 and 18 who worked on these projects and organized this event

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be. Here are some facts about the 1500s:

They used to use urine to tan animal skins, so families used to all pee in a pot & then once a day it was taken & sold to the tannery.......if you had to do this to survive you were "Piss Poor"
But worse than that were the really poor folk who couldn't even afford to buy a pot...........they "didn't have a pot to piss in" and were the lowest of the low.

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May, and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell . .. . brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the Bath water!"

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath.. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs."

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up your n ice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "Dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance-way. Hence: a thresh hold.

(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)

Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could, "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and chew the fat.

Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.

Lead cups were used to drink ale or whiskey. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial.. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a wake.

And that's the truth...Now, whoever said History was boring ! ! !

Banned Books

I know a few people who love to get banned books, i never actually seek them out.
I usually find out a book is banned after i have read it oo khalast.

I bought satanic verses a few years ago, but never got around to reading it. I plan on doing so soon. I want to know what all the fuss is about surrounding this book.

Another book that iv heard so much about is The jewel of madina. Which is a fictional story based on sayda aisha the prophets wife.

According to University of Texas Professor of history and Middle Eastern Studies,Denis spellberg," the book makes fun of Muslims and their history. the novel is a very ugly, stupid piece of work. I don't have a problem with historical fiction. I do have a problem with the deliberate misinterpretation of history. You can't play with a sacred history and turn it into soft core pornography."

I don't know what the content of the book is, but im going to read it soon and tell you.

There is a recipe for success. i see it a lot these days.
Take a sacred subject, offend a large group of people, and tadaaa!
you got a best seller on your hands.

I dont know if i want to travel. After the whole getting sick in spain thing im not to keen on flying.

Then again ...

I have 3 places in mind..

London, cause i didnt go this summer and it feels weird.
Turkey, i have never been and F really wants to go
Egypt, cause i love it and i miss it.

I cant deside on anything!!

Is anyone else traveling this eid?

Swine FLue Vaccine

So schools are postponed because of the swine flue.
I dont get it, two weeks or a month from now the virus will still be here..
so i dont see how postponing schools will help the matter.

i was told people wanted to wait till the vaccine arrives.

but the thing is the vaccine is enough for 20000 people only!

So whos gna get vaccinated?

and its only 30 percent efficient for children under 12.

No one knows for certain if its gna prevent the swine flue, or what its side effects are, cause its very new!

And the ministry has promised those going to haj that they'll get vaccinated.

allah el7afeth inshallah

but i really would like to know the MOH's criteria for who deserves to be vaccinated .

You think wasta would play into it?

Back Pain

My back, neck and shoulders are killing me!
And work doesn't help.

I try to adjust my posture, but sometimes i find myself sitting in the weirdest positions to access whatever I'm working on.

When I get home all i want to do is lie straight down.

I have a set of neck and back exercises that i try to do as much as possible, and I try getting weekly massages.

Ive been to a few places, but nothing has Wowed me so far.

I really don't want to cause permanent damage to my back. Ya3ni ma teswa 3alay.

Anyways

What spas do you guys frequent?
And what kind of massages do you like?

Mykonos

It took four hours to get to mykonos from Athens.

When we arrived a car took us to our hotel, which was absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

our room was greek style. 3 floors

First was the living room, everything is white!

Then up a few steps and you get a double bed, then up again for two single beds.
its so white i clean i had to resist licking the walls!

After we settled in we changed into our swim gear and went to a restaurant close by

The weather was perfect, the sun was warm, and there was a cool breeze

This must have been greek salad number 12. it was ok, not the best but good.

The girls loved the pizza. I had to pick the cheese off before eating it so it wasn't very pleasant

We then took a bus to paradise beach, alot of people recommended we go there

The water was beautiful, but the beach SUCKED.
It was too crowded, and pebbly which i don't like.

We left the beach by the time the sun started setting, went back to the hotel. Showered, changed, then headed out again.

to old mykonos port.
It is basically a strip full of restaurants on the water, and shops in narrow streets.
i LOVED it

We found a store that sold fish frames and jewelery. it was very creative.

The silver fish on top really looked like their swimming!

We then went to a restaurant called RAYA. it served the best food i had in greece.
This was our dessert, caramelized feta cheese.
I loved it and im not a fan of cheese!

it was divine!

30 seconds later ...

The next morning we rented beach buggies. Which are a lot of fun to drive around the island!
We wanted to head to agrari beach, which we were told had one of the most beautiful panoramic views!

But the way there was a nightmare!
the roads were so STEEEP!
And its very secluded, so if anything happens on the way
ma7ad dara 3ana!

so we detoured and went to another beach close by.

The water, the sand were beyond beautiful!

We desided on a late lunch right before sunset. The restaurant was right on the beach.
so we were in our bare feet and bathing suits .

The girls ordered calamari. Since i hate seafood i had pasta!

Then came the dessert.
oh my god.. chocolate cake, choco ice cream, and choco mousse

30 seconds later ...

Check out the moon.. it was perfect!

Thats mykonos in a few pictures. It was a beautiful place.
It has a reputation of being the party island, very homo friendly.
Everyone warned us not to be out late cause everyone is drunk and a lot of accidents happen.
We were warned of theft and even rape!
My friends and i don't like to party. We were up at the crack of dawn to try and hit as many beaches as possible and snoozing pretty early.
So we didnt get to see what all the fuss is about.
We had an AMAZING time!

My Great Aunt Fatma

My dear dear grandmothers sister (allah yr7amha oo yr7am mawtakom).

We went to visit her today. I love going to see her.

She reminds me so much of my grandma 7ayate.

She talks like her, she laughs like her, she dresses like her, and she tells me the funniest stories about my grandma.

I like to sit there and imagine that it is my grandma in front of me, and just for a split second i believe it is.

I have to resist the urge to throw my arms around her and cry my eyes out.

I usually burst into tears after leaving her house, missing my grandma more than ever.

Today she was telling me about sharg. And my aunt promised to take me to where my grandmas house used to be.

As I was leaving i gave her a hug and inhaled the sent of oud and bukhoor. I kissed her head, her shoulders, her cheeks. I cupped her face in my hands and told her ill be seeing her soon.

I want to sit on my grandmas lap again. I want to hear her sing to me. I want to place her hand in mine and play around with her loose skin and ask her yadity shloon eedich 9arat chithy.

My grandma has been gone a long time.
But i still feel her close by

Since the kids don't have school, and spend most of the day in bed, my aunts decided to utilize their time this Ramadan.

So they decided to teach them "sorat Mariam."

They gather Sundays and Tuesdays for two hours, and hopefully by the end of Ramadan they would have learned the whole thing by heart.

I think its an amazing thing. I'm trying to learn it with them, but i discovered im a lot slower than i used to be in memorizing.

It is so cute watching my aunts surrounded by little girls reciting the quraan.

Anyone want to join us?

Entering A War Zone

A war zone this time of year is the local coop before futoor!!

Oh My GOD!

People are insane!

I left work around 1 pm and headed to the coop.

When I first entered the parking lot i noticed no one was parked properly.

Every ones car was askew. Taking more than one parking space.

Which caused a lot of people to park in no parking places.

For some reason the lack of order outside did not alarm me.

Even when a man in a huge car came rushing right at me in a one way street and waved his fist at me like i was the maniac.

I parked. Walked towards the coop. It was pretty humid.

There was only one shopping cart left. I took it and discovered it was crooked, but what the hay.

I pushed my way through the door expecting a rush of cold air after the awful humidity outside...

but i got nothing!

Apparently the Ac wasnt working.

I took a deep airless breath and said its ok ill just pick up the few things i need and be on my way.

Brown Flour ... nope finished

Butter... two left, theyll do

Harda... nope nada

French cheese. I walked towards the cheese section and found omat mo7amad.

Apparently everyone in my area was in the coop. The ac-less coop.

Screw the cheese ... I walked towards the cashier and found line so long I couldn't figure out where they ended.

So i dropped everything in my hands and walked out!

What the haiiiilll man !

Now I have to figure out a decent hour to be in the coop without having to fight my way through!

As promised here are some pictures of my trip.
First stop Athens!
I was only there for one night, but i fell in love with it !

We spent the day in Plaka. Which was a beautiful area full of narrow streets, and lots of stores that sold useless knickknacks and souvenirs .
All the restaurants had a great view of the acropolis.

We tried everything on the cart except the raisins cause they were swarming with flies

I love jewelery !

We decided to try Greek salad at every restaurant we ate in.
And my friend wanted to have as much feta cheese as humanly possible .

All in all our day in Athens was wonderful.

By the way I am finally free of swine flu!

The only bad thing out of getting better is having to go back to work.
But i guess it was inevitable .

I'm back!

3 days early!

why u might ask?

Why would i leave early when i was dying to travel

When I used to sit and count the days till i could take some vacation time off..

WHY?

cz there's a big chance i might have swine flue.

I am currently quarantined in my room. results will be out in 48 hours.

I really hope i don't have it.. Ive been sick for over a week now!

its sucks!!

Spain is way over rated by the way.

and Greece is way underrated!

When I heard about the London concerts i was dying for tickets

I wanted to go see MJ more than anything !

But I couldn't get my hands on any!

And when my friend called to tell me that shes going.

A LOT of things have been happening ill blog about them as soon as i remember what they are!

They changed my work.. they being the evil people in the ministry of health.
I am no longer one round about away from my house.
Im two roundabouts, two traffic lights, a U turn and two left turns away from my house now.
Which caused me to wake up A LOT earlier than I used to , and that's never a good thing.
A girl need her beauty sleep! dont those imbeciles understand that!

I HATE the new polyclinic i work at. Im not getting a long with the staff. It putting a lot of stress and strain on me. I feel irritated and depressed the whole time im there, and its seeping into my life. But thats a different story for a different post.

Weekend comes and i just dont feel like moving, i have missed so many family gatherngs its unbelievable. Im just too exhausted to move.

I fainted at work, had strange men carry me and burst out cry hysterically, but thats another story for another post.

And if that wasnt enough, i killed the king of pop! But thats a different story for a different post!

Im gonna try and catch up with all your posts, i hate being out of the loop!

Miss My Stomach Has A Headache

So my friends are finally coming back home for summer vacations !

A few days ago 7alawa and I went out for coffee for a little one on one time to catch up.

Oh my god. We were Talkingtalkingtalkingtalking. Stumbling all over each other.

We jumped from one story to the next, none related to the other. We tried to squeeze the past 6 months in a couple of hours.

Our months went dry. Our throats felt tight.

And by the time we were done we had a HUGE headache!

In the car, on the way back home we didn't even play music.

We wanted silence.

It was sooo funny!

Shes staying for a month, but for some reason we felt the need to say everything right then and there.

I don't think we have anything else to talk about!

God it feels good to have my friends home!!

Im taking a class. Its very small, just 6 people.

Today i walk in and there was a girl already there.

I said hello and smiled.

I love lenotre!
One of my Favorite restaurants!

My cousin NuNu, myself and Z went to have lunch at lenotre alba7ar.

Then headed to marina for some shopping.

Felt like the old days, I loved it .

Nothing beats good food and good company.

A few weeks ago z and I wanted to have dinner at lenotre marina.
I headed to the salad bar ready to fill my plate, and right there on the counter roaming among the salad plates was a cockroach!
I resisted the urge to scream and signaled to the waiter.
Who got a napkin and squished it.

I went back to the table and told Z what I saw.
We canceled our orders cause i was too disgusted to eat there.

And that's it. No one headed over to apologize, no one even bothered to make excuses about how its not their fault.
they just let us walk out of there.
I was very disappointed.
