Graduation Dinner

Since every happy occasion in Kuwait is associated with food, its a social obligation for me to throw a graduation dinner.

I graduated so I have to feed the masses.

I want something small, just my aunts and people close to me. The ones that are really happy im done, who actually care about me and spent all those years worrying and praying for me.

My parents on the other hand want all of Kuwait to celebrate.

My dad called me the other day and said i want you to pick a salah in any hotel you like and throw a big party..

and me saying shino 3ers! Its not my wedding dad, our house is more than enough.

And hes like la baba eshloon your a doctor now lazim something big!

Im a FAKE doctor dad, a dentist. Its not a big deal.

Yes it is a big deal.

is it?

No really im asking you is it?

Should i really throw such a big party and get overly excited

or are my parents just overly joyous for me?

Dentists are not fake Doctors ..lol ! throw a big party i say .. something to remember by.

November 16, 2008 at 12:15 AM

Mabroook :D of course it's a big deal! But if you don't like big parties o ketha and you're not up to arranging one then a house party would do :) you'd have more fun and get to spend time with everyone.

November 16, 2008 at 12:16 AM

Take it from me and throw the damn party or you'll never hear the end of it.. For the BA I threw a big bash and the guests were mostly my mothers friends and I had to do it seeing she was over the moon that I graduated.. As for the MA I did a bash my way with my buddies..

either way you should celebrate it.. I say do a get together for you and your buddies at home and do another one to please your parents.. at the end of the day they did worry about you for endless years so I think its only fair to please them with the celebration as a sign of appreciation..

i say go for the small party.. the big one ra7 t9eer kilha mujamalaat.. u will end up inviting ppl u don't really want to invite..

November 16, 2008 at 12:56 AM

if it makes your parents happy, go for it...it only shows that they are really proud of you...and show you off to the world!

WOMAN! Enjoy yourself, celebrate it to just celebrateeee! I personally wouldn't want a wedding-like party because its over-rated but hey! A party is well deserved so enjoy yourself and having all your loved ones around you.. Hell, AM proud of you keef ur family? lool

November 16, 2008 at 4:56 AM

Congratulation Doc!!!

Mabrooooook! I hope you enjoy you celebration, whether it's a small gathering or a big party.

"Im a FAKE doctor dad, a dentist" (رحم الله مرئ عرف قدر نفسه)

Now on a more serious note, I would if or when I graduate throw a dinner to my family. A big family dinner in my house is much more fun and relaxed than one in a hotel where people I do not really know show up! I always say that my previous melcha was much more exciting than my wedding due to that reason! Go with the house thing and you will not regret it;)

November 16, 2008 at 5:36 AM

Just invite your friends over to your house for a nice BBQ or to a nice fancy restaurant. Like you said its not your wedding.

ya have a huge party but whatever you feel comfortable with in the end

November 16, 2008 at 9:49 AM

actually

you should be quite happy, that one of your parents took the initiative to make a party for you.

In my 21-something years of life, nobody has ever EVER made a party for something that I have done. I have always felt left out cause all my friends had parties, even for silly reasons.

Us, human beings, we try to find reasons to be happy and joyous because guess what? we only have one lifetime to live.

My advice to you is, enjoy the time you have with your parents, loved ones...etc. And be happy that someone was thoughtful enough to do a party for you.

And don't be pessimistic, I know you might think they are bragging about you, well...so what?

If I had a daughter that graduated as a dentist, I would be as happy drug cartel in a country without drug enforcement laws...bad example eh????

Anyhow, congrats for the graduation and wish you a happy graduation day =)

P.S: don't forget my invitation.

-x

November 16, 2008 at 1:15 PM

November 16, 2008 at 1:15 PM

Akeed its a big deal. Dont underestimate your achievements. But here's the thing, do you personally want to have a huge celebration? Personally i'd just have a little gathering ( i hate being center of attention) and take the rest of the money my parents were gonna spend and place it in a big bash vacation fund for my friends and i :P

November 16, 2008 at 1:49 PM

I can not believe that most of the people are with the hotel thing?!

November 16, 2008 at 4:47 PM

Well it depends on you ^^ If your doing in it I am coming ^^ Party time Fun and relaxation ^_^

November 16, 2008 at 5:12 PM

Well...congratulations first of all. Dentists are by no means less qualified than doctors.

I would keep it really intimate. A nice dinner for the family (aunts, uncles and cousins included)...I find it unnecessary to throw a huge party upon graduation. Everybosy graduates...!
(Well not everybody...but you know what I mean)

But in the end...it's up to you.

November 16, 2008 at 5:50 PM

i lucked out when i graduated, a relative had recently passed away. no huge party with people who don't care for me! yay! (not for death, but for small 3azeema's with only people who i love and care for).

have it your way. small events are always more fun anyway.
