Banned Books

I know a few people who love to get banned books, i never actually seek them out.
I usually find out a book is banned after i have read it oo khalast.

I bought satanic verses a few years ago, but never got around to reading it. I plan on doing so soon. I want to know what all the fuss is about surrounding this book.

Another book that iv heard so much about is The jewel of madina. Which is a fictional story based on sayda aisha the prophets wife.

According to University of Texas Professor of history and Middle Eastern Studies,Denis spellberg," the book makes fun of Muslims and their history. the novel is a very ugly, stupid piece of work. I don't have a problem with historical fiction. I do have a problem with the deliberate misinterpretation of history. You can't play with a sacred history and turn it into soft core pornography."

I don't know what the content of the book is, but im going to read it soon and tell you.

There is a recipe for success. i see it a lot these days.
Take a sacred subject, offend a large group of people, and tadaaa!
you got a best seller on your hands.

Did any of you guys read the book ?

Frankly speaking, I see no benefit in reading these books, but to each his own. I'm against banning any book by the way.

no but thanks to you now I'm dying to read all of those you've mentioned. Isn’t so weird how our brains function! Why do we pay for offensive books that are certainly going to infuriate us!

:S what kind of a book is that!!! i dont think i want to read it.. and its true what you said, make the book offensive to some group and you got yourself a big seller!!

I never really read fiction but I definitely agree. There are many books these days that are just pure nonsense. Khaalif to3ref... I think we are to blame sometimes when we make a big fuss about it and make it more popular .. I think people should just ignore these books and they will never get sold.

P.S. You have permission !! :P

Rushdie's book was not a fun read. The "inflammatory" part wasn't really that much. It was such a heavy, philosophical read. I can't even remember what it was about. :/

I'm against books like Jewel of Medina because I'd hate for the author to get royalties from the sale. I'm not big on erotica either which as I read was basically what this book is.

Also, I would probably get offended considering the book is about Alsayida Aiysha, a Mother of Believers.

I read Satanic Verses. Honestly, I only think so many people read it because it was banned. It was tedious.

Right now I am reading Girls of Riyadh - it seems sort of superficial, like Shopaholic does Riyadh, but there is a thread that is so authentic it keeps me reading. There is just enough to keep me hooked. Have you read it?

For a while Romeo and Juliet was banned in Kuwait.

I also heard that they banned boigraphies of Mother Theresa when she first died afraid people would convert into christianty

Catch22 is banned in Kuwait too. I have it but haven't read it yet, same with Satanic Verses

Kuwait has the STUPIDEST reasons t ban books. And honestly, they only advertise it more by banning it. Everytime a book is banned i make sure i go out and look for it.

Ungh, whatever, man...Banning books is ridiculous...
Read, read, read, people. I don't care WHAT it is; even the most retarded book on the planet probably has some sort of message behind it.
Ya3nee, shino romeo and juliet gets banned? It's SHAKESPEARE. you're banning SHAKESPEARE. how could you ban shakespeare, for fuck's sake?? 0_0
eh, get your hands on books and read them.
it's more knowledge than you'll get from going to the marina :p
