Swine FLue Vaccine

So schools are postponed because of the swine flue.
I dont get it, two weeks or a month from now the virus will still be here..
so i dont see how postponing schools will help the matter.

i was told people wanted to wait till the vaccine arrives.

but the thing is the vaccine is enough for 20000 people only!

So whos gna get vaccinated?

and its only 30 percent efficient for children under 12.

No one knows for certain if its gna prevent the swine flue, or what its side effects are, cause its very new!

And the ministry has promised those going to haj that they'll get vaccinated.

allah el7afeth inshallah

but i really would like to know the MOH's criteria for who deserves to be vaccinated .

You think wasta would play into it?

Wasta always play a big rule here .. I only hope it does not reach that low level ..

there was this breaking news on watantv where the World Health Orgnization demands closing schools till GOD knows when !

My freind in the states told me ehnak now yesawoon swine flue parties for kids ! they gather all infected kids with non-infected so they get it and get normally vaccinated !

It'll reduce contact between individuals who are possibly infected but have not shown symptoms. Destroying the proximity between individuals allows for the virus to die out. (having no available hosts)

H1N1 contains isolates from the H1N1 that spread in the 1920's-1940's. Although substantially mutated, the pattern may still hold and help in distinguishing who is eligible to be vaccinated first. H1N1 from the 1920's had a W-shaped mortality curve indicating that those at greater risk lie in the age ranges of 0-4. Ages 5-14 at the lowest risk. With a spike, again, at mid 20's. Then steadily increasing at age ~40 upwards.

i have heard from several sources that vaccine is dangerous :S

i dont know how can it be a dangerous vaccine..mean aren't other vaccines dangerous as well? Why is this particular one dangerous y3ni?!

You, Eshda3wa, on the other hand have ammunity now! if kids around you got it while you were ey sick as well then they are ammune as well and can go to school without fear

Allah ya7feth il jamee3 insha2 allah

from a very non-medical point of view.. flu vaccines suck ;p
why?
if we take a look at everyone who get's the regular flu vaccine before they go to haj, we see that most of them get a disease far worse than if they didn't get vaccinated!! :S
I don't know if this happens to everyone, or only ppl I know... but I don't think I want the vaccine ;p

omg!!!

Heard from my lecturer that it had side effect :( Not sure about that. Btw agree with you about postponed for school!

September 12, 2009 at 10:22 AM

yeah this whole swine flu thing is kind of shady. from the lack of vaccinations to the way the ministry of education is handling it all. could we really be that ill-prepared?

September 12, 2009 at 11:23 AM

i bet wasta will do play a role in it.. its the same situation here..
all we can do is wait and see...
allah ye7fath al jamee3 inshallah..

Good question. Too bad I have no idea.

But postponing school is silly, a mon avi.

September 12, 2009 at 5:13 PM

humm .. I hope they won't apply this in Saudi I don't want school to be postponed :( not that I'm a big fan .. but i just see it pointless

Of course wasta plays a role, its Kuwait! lol! But I spoke to a lot of doctors and they said that people should really not take the vaccine as it can have a bad effect on people, and not really have an effect on the virus!

scare mongering gets people no where fast ...... you can give vaccines left right and center or not ..... either way I think it'll die down like bird flu, foot and mouth and mad cow. People will just accept that it's there .....

September 13, 2009 at 3:50 AM

in the states it goes something like this:
1. Children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday
2. Pregnant women
3. People 50 years of age and older
4. People of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
5. People who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities
6. People who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from flu, including:
a. Health care workers
b. Household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu
c. Household contacts and out of home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to be vaccinated)

i think people who can get it will get it first you know what i mean? like the new ID card with the chip, some people can get faster than others

September 13, 2009 at 11:02 PM

I think swine flu... N1H1 or whatever it is is really OVERRATED! Its a flu, any flu can kill! Tamiflu was waay down in the market and price was CHEAP! They wanted to market it and oh boy they did really well! And yes.. postponing school wont get us anywhere! Are they saying those mothers wont take their kids out to the malls and movies and restaurants and and and!!?!?! This is all BS

September 14, 2009 at 10:13 AM

what pisses me off here in the US no one is recommending the vaccine, some hospitals rejected it and are giving normal flu vaccine instead.

the swine flu vaccine is really bad, doctors who created it refuse to take it or give it to their families, thats why most of it now is being shipped to the east and middle east..

i wouldnt recommend taking it, specially the kids :(
