To Work Or Not To Work

That is my question.
I dont know what I want to do.
A part of me is excited to start.
I want to work and be productive Make my own money.
But another part of my is telling me The first day of work is the first day of the rest of my life, So why hurry ?
Why not take 6 months off and be a bum.
Do nothing but travel.
The thing is everyone i know is either in school or already working
no one is in limbo. So.. To work or not to work?

Well, it depends on the opportunity you had. If it is so good that you could blame yourself then go for it but if not then try to rest as much as you can cause you are going to miss these moments.

I just read "Eat Pray Love" and now I want to live in Italy just to learn the language and eat the food. You could do that and I could live vicariously through you =P

Take at least 2 months off. Although I'm still studying, all my friends who are working said they did not regret taking time off at all and are encouraging me to do so.

Do something you always wanted to do. Volunteer work. Language classes. Art classes... Whatever it is.

As they say "la7ga 3ala ilshoghil"

That fact that you are even contemplating taking some time off means that you should :D

After working my ass off for 13 years, i resigned in feb to do some traveling...and now i will restart work after ramadan. Let me tell you it was the best decision i ever made.

Now off course the question here is how long? I wud say if u r passionate about your work, don't take too long off or u wud lose the passion, if u r burned out, take as long as u need to regain yr passion. Just don't start working if u r tired and not too enthusiastic about work :)

    All the best

If you want a break before starting then by all means do it but don't take it up for too long lest you might develop laziness.

Take it from MY experience. WORK! As an entry level, I believe its critical you get some experience post graduation. It is bound to be the question after applying, where the hell have you been for the past 6 months? Work for a year THEN take a break. At that point you'll have saved money too. So, traveling is that much better :D Besides, first day of your job is a scary step that keeps getting scarier the longer you wait on it.

I would say work :) you don't want to mess out on job opportunities oh and that interview question "Why didn't you get a job right away?" to take a break, won't cut it as a good answer, I think.

    Good luck ;)

You see, the day u walk into work, is the day there is nothing more to look forward to in terms of career achievements in your life. As in a new phase! Unless you open ur own practise one day, but thats it. Ur stuck. Unlike school days wen you got three months summer vacations, unlike college days when you got the liberty to cut class and sleep in *sigh* and go whenever you want... this is work. Thats it. Ur stuck. Whether you like ur job or not, u will be stuck there until ur 50. Day in and day out. 30 days vacation if ur lucky. You cannot sleep in when u dont feel like it. You cannot wakeup and decide "ooh i feel like going out to breakfast with the girls" ...

Fa there is absoloutly no rush. Especially if u are not in a dire need for money and that you can guarantee u will find work... take your time. Find out more about q8 o live in it again, explore and do something like backpacking in europe o japan for example. The sky is the limit. and find a adventorous companion with you. there is no rush, life is too short to spend between gory walls with people who are merciless... Enjoy ur freedom while you have it!

If you're sure you won't get bored in the 6 months then take a break... but if you do that it's like you're telling yourself that once you start work you won't have as much fun..
That's not necessarily the truth :)

but don't you think 6 months is a little long?

lol I took 6 months off after uni, it was a blaaast for the first 3 months.. then I realised everyone has iltezamat studying/work/family except me and that I needed to keep my self busy ib ay 6areeqa.. so I looked for a job.. I worked for 2 months.. realised it was NOT for me (the place not working), and decided to continue and get my masters :P so I would say take some time off chill, enjoy doing nothing having no iltezamat, enjoy smiling to yourself when everyone goes to bed early for work/school...THEN get into reality and get a job :P

    take a break

if you're going to be self employed or work for family then you can take a break for a while, sooner or later you'll be fed up and want to do something productive.

if you're going to be employed then take a break and research all the working environments, think hard about what you want to do, where you want to work..

and when you've had enough a break go do something with your life =)
