Peer Pressure
It doesn't get easier as you get older. Peer Pressure is always present.
You know how they say the older the wiser?
I don't believe that is the case, a lot of people seem to get even more stupid, and weaker.
Submitting to peer pressure and doing things that any person in their right state of mind will know not to do.
I was always good at setting certain lines and not crossing them. I had my share of fun, I broke more than my share of rules, but there were things that I would never ever try to do no matter how many people were doing it. I never had the need to "experiment" with certain stuff.
God blessed me with friends that would happily say no for me, even when they were doing something, they were very respectful of my boundaries. They never goaded me, or pushed me to take part in something they knew I deemed morally wrong and vise versa.
The thing is now that we are older, its harder trying to stop someone you know form going over the edge, they always think they know what they are doing, and its always just one time, and I'm not 17 anymore I can handle it.
So i find myself helpless, on the outside looking in instead of part of the group. Its getting harder to play cool, and oh you can do whatever you want I'm fine with it. I'm not fine anymore, its not cool to watch someone you deeply care about hurt themselves and you put a smile of your face.
Does it ever stop? That constant battle with stupidity?!

Meet My Patient
I didn't know part of being a dentist was being a therapist too! You would think having your hands in someones mouth would shut them up, but noooo. I had many oh-i-need-to-pour-my-heart-out-sessions; and I have perfected keeping the look of impatience off of my face (god bless my mask). One of my patients, female, mid thirties, started showing my bruises on her body, and telling me the story of each.
This she said pointing to a bruise on her wrist was because of you.
excuse me?
from last time I was here, I got home late and he got mad.
who got mad?
My husband!
oh
Could you try and hurry up today?
Of course, ill do my best, please lay back.
Wait let me show you the bruise on my leg.( lifting her dress up)
ma'am please put ur dress down.
You know when we first got married he was so sweet
ma'am your going to be late again
I never thought in a million years this would happen to me
I understand, please open wide
We were so in love
ma'am the anesthesia is going to wear off
But everything changed. (starts crying)
No wonder dentists commit suicide!
All i wanted to do was tell her to SHUT UP so i can finish my work. So she wont be late and her husband hits her then she comes back claiming its my fault!
I didn't finish on time, but she freaked out so much, I just put a temporary filling, and then I drove her home.
9irt draiwel akher 3mre!
God she made me feel so damn guilty! I know its not my fault her husband is an abusive maniac, but when someone tells you your the cause of their misery it still feels bad!
I just felt really sorry for her, and when she asked me to take her home I couldn't say No.
So much for my embracing the word no post!

Stripper Shoes For School
There is this girl with me in school that shows up to the clinic in these shoes. EXACTLY the same ones, silver glitter and all.
I don't understand how she is able to stand all day on her feet with shoes like that! We run around all day, going from one clinic to the next, diagnosing patients, walking to the lecture halls and back to the clinic again. Stripper shoes should not be worn to school, especially when your in a position where your image directly affects patients reactions towards you!

Book Review
I read this book years ago when I was still in high school and i loved it.
I recently took the time to read it again, and I loved it even more! I think it's because I can better understand the complex emotions that came with it.
The story revolves around the authors personal experiences during the Vietnam war. She works as a spy, gets tortured, is sentenced to death, raped, and becomes a fugitive all before her 15Th birthday.
After her escape from death she works as a waitress, maid, black market vendor, and even a prostitute. She is the mother of two and plans her escape to the United States by the time she is 20!!
The book shows you a family torn apart by war, and the strength and iron will of a girl from a simple village.
The plot comes full circle after her return to her family 20 some years later. Her family is afraid to be seen with her because the tensions of war are still present.
I highly recommend this book to everyone, its definitely worth a read!

NO
Just say NO
I can understand why some people have trouble saying no to others.
But the fact of the matter is, it is not rude to turn someone down when you really don't have the time or the capability to help them out!
Whats worse is when someone knows you don't have the time or the capability to do something and they still ask you!
That is just plain rude and inconsiderate so it should be easier for you to turn them down!!
I have always been a pleaser (is that a word?). Always striving for people to like me, offering to do things and putting a lot of time and effort into it. As I grew older, it kept getting harder, and so I discovered the wonderful magic of the word NO!
Embrace it people! It makes life happy!
NO NO NO!!!

Begging Kids
Last Time I was in Kuwait I passed by sultan center in Salwa to grab a few things. As I was walking in I saw a bunch of kids playing, they were probably in third or fourth grade. When I got closer I heard one kid whisper to the other "agoolaha?" , "should I tell her"
I stopped thinking maybe my zipper was open and they wanted to tell me, but that wasn't the case, so i asked them, tell me what?
Boy : khalte 3ndich efloos? (aunti do u have any money?)
I stood there for a few seconds contemplating what I should do next. They were very well dressed, and imbayen they were not poor or anything like that, so why were they asking for money?
Me: what do you want money for?
Boy: just like that
Me: do you do this often?
Boy: yes we come here everyday and ask people for money en6er
Me: Are you poor?
Boy: yes
Me: you know god knows if your not telling the truth
Boy: no wallah we are i swear
Me: do your parents know you do this?
at this point one of the kids ran off, but i managed to grab the arm of the other one, he started wiggling and crying, please let me go, please let me go.
Me: don't worry I wont hurt you I just want to talk to you
Boy: I wont do it again please don't tell my mom
Me: I wont tell your mom, but what your doing is wrong, when you lie to people and take their money its very bad
Boy: ok ok
Me: if you do this again I'm going to find your parents and tell them!
I let him go and he ran off.
I gave you the very short version of the story, I must have stood there for half an hour talking to the boys, and they only answered my questions after I promised them money.
I have to add it was around 9 or 10 pm on a school night.
I was very bothered by what was happening on so many different levels! why were they out so late unsupervised, and where did they come off thinking it was ok for them to ask strangers for money!
I should have called the cops and have them take the boys to the station and call their parents, but I highly doubt our cops would care.

Cafe Monawa3at
I usually sleep with my TV tuned on to CNN, I woke up with my remote under me and i apparently switched to KTV. A "Shabab" programme was on called Cafe Monawa3at.
There is a segment where they air celebrity news.
First off the guy that starred in the Borne Supremacy is MATT DAMON not MANDY MOORE.
They were talking about how Mandy Moore said if Paul Greengrass is directing then he will sign on for the next Bourne.
Sweethearts haven't you heard of the Bourne Ultimatum! And is there nothing going on in the celebrity world that you had to report about a movie that came out in 2004! Shame on a TV station that doesn't get their info right.
As for the girl presenting the segment, she had the weirdest voice ever! It was all horse and NOT easy on the ears. Her tone was way off, and she apparently did not know that a microphone amplifies her voice so there is no need for her to scream her wrong information out.
Now that I think of it that is probably why she has a horse voice in the first place!
Do these guys go thru some training course? The girl couldn't speak!
Madre meta KTV beytsani3oon!

Gays, Lesbians, and My Hijab
My cousin and I had a very interesting conversation the other day, ill ask you guys the same questions that came up
Lesbian women look at other women the same way men do, doesn't that mean we should wear our hijab in front of them?
What about gay men? I mean we do nothing for them right, and they are definitely not someone we can marry, so do we need to wear our hijab in front of them too?
come on when you think about it I'm making perfect sense here!

Grandmother
I miss my grandma
shes been dead 10 years, but these days i have this strange longing for her.
I need to talk to her about so many things. My life took unexpected turns and I wish she could have been here for all of it.
I always had this connection with my grandma, and I talk to her all the time still, and I really truly believe she listens to every word I say, but every once in a while I wish she could actually reply.
Before I left Kuwait I went to visit her grave, I sat there reading quraan and telling her new updates about my life, I cried my eyes out. I haven't cried like that in a while and ever since I've been missing her like hell even more than usual.
Grandma, I don't know if you have Internet where you are, but if your reading this I want you to know that I love you, and I really really need you right now!
